BC UNION CELEBRATES COMMUNITY SOCIAL SERVICE WORKERS APPRECIATION DAYA message from BCGEU president Darryl Walker:This November 6, please join me in thanking the more than 10,400 BCGEU community social service members who work so hard to support and care for vulnerable members of our communities.
Yet the important work our members do is too often under-appreciated and under-paid. As the BC Liberal government continues to slash budgets, the burden of care falls heavier on the shoulders of our members. It is a top priority of our union to ensure that community social service workers continue to make gains in this next round of bargaining. This will be the second year November 6 will be celebrated across Canada as Community Social Service Workers Appreciation Day. The idea for this day came up at a national conference of community social service workers hosted by our Canadian Federation, the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE).
