Tell Us Your Story

Community Social Service workers are essential to building strong communities and making life better for many families. Yet workers in this sector are often as invisible as the members of society they support.

We welcome you to tell us your story.

Do you work in the community social service sector? Perhaps you receive community social services as a client. In either case, what are the challenges you face daily? What would you like to see change in order to improve social services in your community?

Letter to Premier Campbell

Mr Campbell,
I want to tell you about Catherine. Catherine lived in a group home here in Quesnel, you see Catherine was retarded and while her behavior was always perfect she couldn't live alone. Unlike many others who had been in the group home Catherine was allowed to go to the Grace Young Centre because she never threw a fit or misbehaved. Catherine liked living in the group home, she was always concerned about getting home in time for dinner. Catherine liked everyone and everyone liked Catherine. Catherine was "so joyous" much of the time.

You in your wisdom decided to close the group home that many people have used over the years. A new home was found for Catherine. Fortunately not the one in Smithers or Dawson Creek as originally threatened.  Her new home was to be here in Quesnel, and she was "so joyous" that she wouldn't have to leave her many friends and what little family she has left. Well the new home fell through and Catherine threw her first fit as threy dragged her to the car to take her to her new home in Prince George.

I hope your Olympics somehow makes up for Catherines unhappiness, and her many friends grief at seeing her leave the town she knows and the people she cared about. Actually since we tax payers have to pay no matter I hope there is no snow left for the winter olympics.

You never gain much here at election time, and you will gain even less here. Not to mention the fact that I frequent a message board with many British Columbians and Catherines story will be told there, and hopefully spread and strike peoples hearts as it has my families.
